Key Characteristics of Anubias Nana ‘Petite’
- Scientific Name: Anubias barteri var. nana ‘Petite’ (also sold as ‘Bonsai’)
- Distinctive Feature: Its miniature size. The leaves are significantly smaller than the standard A. nana, often measuring less than 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter.
- Size & Growth: One of the smallest Anubias varieties. Total plant height typically stays within 2–4 inches (5–10 cm), forming low, dense clumps. It is a very slow grower.
- Hardiness: Extremely hardy, robust, and tolerant of wide water parameters. An excellent choice for beginners.
- Lighting: Low to medium light is ideal. Its slow growth rate means very bright light can easily lead to algae overgrowth on the leaves.
- Planting: As an epiphyte, it must be attached (glued or tied) to hardscape (rocks, driftwood) with the rhizome completely exposed to the water to prevent rot.
- Use in Aquascaping: Ideal for creating a detailed foreground, accenting small pieces of hardscape, or simulating foliage on “aquascaping trees” in nano aquariums.
