Key Characteristics of Anubias Nana ‘Gold’
- Scientific Name: Anubias barteri var. nana ‘Gold’ (or ‘Golden’)
- Origin: Cultivar (developed in cultivation), though the species base is West Africa.
- Distinctive Feature: The leaves are a bright golden-yellow or lime-green hue, providing a strong color contrast against darker green plants and driftwood.
- Size & Growth: A dwarf plant, typically 2–6 inches (5–15 cm) tall. It is a very slow grower.
- Hardiness: Extremely robust and easy to care for (beginner-friendly).
- Lighting: Prefers low to medium light. While it needs light to maintain its golden color, too much light can still lead to algae buildup on its slow-growing leaves.
- Planting: Must be grown as an epiphyte—glued or tied to hardscape (wood, rock) with the thick rhizome kept fully exposed to the water column. Never bury the rhizome.
