Key Characteristics of Anubias Barteri ‘Striped’
- Scientific Name: Anubias barteri var. ‘Striped’ (Cultivar)
- Distinguishing Feature: The leaves, which are typically oval or slightly pointed, display variegation. This usually manifests as lines, streaks, or marbling of lighter green or white/cream color running parallel to the main veins against the dark green background of the leaf.
- Size & Growth: A medium-sized Anubias, generally growing to about 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) in height. It is a slow grower.
- Hardiness: Extremely robust and easy, sharing the low-maintenance characteristics of the Anubias genus.
- Lighting: Low to moderate light. Some variegated plants may benefit from slightly better lighting than their all-green counterparts to maintain their coloration, but excessive bright light must still be avoided to prevent algae.
- Planting: It is an epiphyte. The rhizome must be exposed (attached to wood or rock) to prevent it from rotting.
- Use in Aquascaping: Used as an accent or focal plant in the midground or foreground of large tanks, where its unusual striping can provide a captivating visual break from solid green foliage.
