Key Characteristics of Anubias ‘Dragon Claw’
- Scientific Name: Often sold as Anubias barteri var. glabra ‘Dragon Claw’ or Anubias Minima ‘Dragon Claw’ (it is a hybrid/cultivar).
- Distinctive Feature: The leaves are the main attraction—they are strongly lobed, elongated, and deeply textured, giving them a “dragon claw” or jagged appearance that stands out from the smooth leaves of other Anubias varieties.
- Leaf Color: Deep, dark green, often with a glossy or leathery texture.
- Size & Growth: A medium-sized Anubias, typically reaching a height of 4–8 inches (10–20 cm). It is a slow grower.
- Hardiness: Very easy to care for and highly robust; it is well-suited for beginner aquarists and even tanks with herbivorous fish (due to its tough leaves).
- Lighting: Low to medium light. Like all slow-growing Anubias, strong light increases the risk of algae growth on the leaves.
- Planting: Must be grown as an epiphyte (attached to hardscape). Do not bury the rhizome in the substrate, or it will rot.
