Key Characteristics of Anubias Congensis ‘Mini’
- Scientific Name: Often listed as Anubias congensis ‘Mini’ or a form of Anubias barteri var. congensis or A. afzelii.
- Distinguishing Feature: Its leaves are longer and much narrower (lanceolate) compared to the rounder A. nana types, yet remain smaller and more compact than the standard A. congensis. This shape provides a sharp, “spiky” contrast in an aquascape.
- Size & Growth: A small-to-medium-sized Anubias, typically growing to about 4–12 inches (10–30 cm) in height, depending on the environment and how it’s classified. It is a slow grower.
- Hardiness: Extremely robust and forgiving, making it highly suitable for beginners.
- Lighting: Low to medium light is ideal. Like all Anubias, strong lighting increases the risk of algae on the leaves.
- Planting: It is an epiphyte. The thick rhizome must remain exposed and should be attached (tied or glued) to driftwood or rocks. Burying the rhizome will cause it to rot.
- Use in Aquascaping: Perfect for the midground of an aquarium to create texture against broad-leafed or carpeting plants.
